Meet the Cheerleaders

Laura Farrelly

Where do I begin....Am co-manager of the Tour this year with the very talented Katie, am VP of the highly talented, most succesful and definitely sexiest University Cheerleaders in the UK (hehe) the Birmingham Pussycats and also find the time to study for a degree in Economics where I will be graduating next year.

Bring It On!

xx

Katie Waters

I've been a cheerleader with the Newcastle Angels since I helped set up the squad 4 years ago back in my first year. This is my first year competing nationally with the Angels, but unfortunately it's also my last. (I'm just finishing my Masters so I'm looking forward to throwing out the text books, getting a career started and earning some money, quite scary though!?!) The Angels have done really well in this year's competitions coming 3rd in University Cheer, 2nd in University Dance at UKCA and 4th in Dance at BCA Universities.

Having cheered for the GB Bulldogs last year, Laura and I are co-managing this year's squad with a big thanks to our sponsors Shark who've been very cool!

Well done to all the girls who've tried out this year, let's have some fun and make this tour the best yet! xxx

Louise Carter

I am currently studying Textiles at Loughborough University and am president and coach for the uni cheerleading squad Goldrush. I started cheerleading for Crystal Palace Football club when I was 12 and coaching when I was 15. I was a member of Team Britain, the British National Display Squad, for 2 years from 2000-2001. With the squad I travelled to malaysia (twice) to coach, judge the competition and perform at several events. I joined Loughborough Goldrush in 2002, and lead the team to our third successful competition at BCA 2004. Some may say I'm hyperactive but I'd like to call it 'excess energy'. Having been on tour with the Bulldogs in Spain (Italy) last year, i know how much fun it can be and I'm sure that this year will be just as fun. We've got a great team (even though youre all bonkers!!!) and im sure that we're going to be great. Big love to Sven, Nancy, Paul and all you other crazy kids! I'm so excited, cant wait!!

In a word; Barry!

 Scarlett Haines

I have just graduated from a History of Art and Architecture degree and am about to start teaching in September. I have been cheering for 4 years with my squad the Reading Bunnies, and after being Captain last year, I am now the coach.  I was part of Bulldogs Cheer last year and am really excited about coaching the new squad this summer.  I have been told I am funny and hyperactive, and very much like the other coach, Lou! I coach two other squads as well as the Bunnies and Bulldogs but am learning so much from all the girls in the Bulldogs that I can't wait to teach the others! I have no doubt that this years squad will be amazing and am really looking forward to going on tour with them to cheer for the British Bulldogs and can't wait to show America what we can do!

Gemma Avenall

I'm from outer space!!! Seriously!!!! I'm like some sort of crazee loon! But if you want, I'm from Swindon and I go to Reading Uni where I cheer for the Reading Bunnies. I'm primarily a flyer, but I also spot and can base too. I've wanted to be a cheerleader since I was 7, for the Swindon Robinettes (soooo pleased I wasn't cos my street cred would have gone WAY down!!!) I have been cheering since October and haven't looked back since. Scarly has been one of my closest friends, and between us we're two of the loons in our squad!

I like cheerleading, dancing, ice cream (Ben & Jerrys baby, yea!) and being with the Bunnies... and I dislike meat, spiders, well, ANY insect to tell the truth...and my ambition is to create world domination by the cheeries!!!!

Eleanor Barnet-Lamb

Hi, I'm Elli.  I've been cheerleading with the Southampton Vixens for two years and I seem to spend all my time either cheering or trying to organise something to do with it!  This year I'm president of the Vixens.  I do just about manage to fit in my course, I'm reading medicine but don't expect me to fix any injuries!

Charlotte Bell

Where to start? Well I’m studying psychology at Kent, I’m the only one on the bulldogs team from my uni so am very proud! I nearly missed out on joining the cheerleaders as I missed Fresher’s Fayre, but luckily was given the flyer by friends who know me far too well!!!! Have now been doing it for two years. Love it. However I think I might be the most inexperienced cheerie as up until three months ago, Id never stunted!! Apologies now if you think you are gonna fall, but I promise I’ll catch you even if it means hitting the deck first!! Love tuna mayonnaise, chocolate, shoes, eyeshadow and cheering of course. Not very fond of losing stuff, and cats. Actually I’m scared of them and at twenty, I still don’t really know my left from my right, so Lou and Scarlett will have their work cut out (“No Charlotte! The other arm!”) Cant wait to start learning from all the girls and seeing what I can learn (left would be a start). It’s going to be a lot of fun!

Sam Bond

Hi

My name is Sam, I'm 20 years old and am going into my third year of studying Primary Education at the University of Hertfordshire. I have been cheerleading with the Hertfordshire Sirens for a year and am captain next year. I cheer for the Hurricanes and only missed one game last year, due to a dodgy knee, caused by training with the hurricanes second team! I am also in the process of setting up a squad to cheer for the London O's.

Outside of uni and cheerleading (is there such a thing?), I live in Southend in Essex. I enjoy the odd drink (!) and night out. I am also partial to spending my loan shopping and on random roadtrips to thorpe park and other attractions!

I got into cheerleading because there wasn't anything else to do at uni, and another great excuse for more social outings!!! I'm a primary base and looking forward to my captaincy next year, bossing the squad about!!

I'm looking forward to San Francisco, the cheerleading, football and shopping! But not the flight as i'm terrified of flying!

Lucy Borton (Captain)

Hi I'm Lucy, originally from London, I've been studying at Southampton Uni for three years reading History, yawn!  I've been cheerleading for the Southampton Vixens for a year and this is also my first year with the Bulldogs - and I'm loving it!  I have done a lot of gymnastics and dance before but cheerleading is a whole new experience.  I cannot wait to cheer the boys on and show everyone what we're made of!

I'm really excited about leading the squad on the field, it is a real honour, especially seeing as all the girls are so lovely.    I've never worked so hard and had so much fun at the same time.

Hotel rooms are palaces' of fun, cannot wait until San Fran - Look out USA here we come!

PS Apologies in advance for any blondness that may occur...

Dani Bouchard

I am the original ginger from Jersey C.I. I am captain of Goldrush, Loughborough University Cheerleaders. I do not do a mickey mouse course, I am a serious theatre studies finalist (and people say I'm an attention seeker - can't think why!). Formerly known as the BFG, but the haircut has gone and I am searching for a new nick name. Last year the Bulldogs tour to Italy helped me join a good FAMILY of friends (you know who you are) and I am looking forward to another eventful tour. Must dash just saw a queen bee!

Jo Griffiths

Im from Guernsey a little Island off the coast of France, Ive lived there all my life. I only started cheerleading when i came to Loughborough University last September. I really enjoy it as i used to do gymnastics, but i find that cheerleading is a much more social sport and really enjoy the stunting side of it. At the moment i am about to start a degree in Graphic design in September so i will be a fresher again!! whoo hoo!!  I love travelling so being able to travel doing a sport that i love is amazing and i cant wait to meet people from other countries that feel the same.

Hannah Fagan

My name is Hannah and I'm from Bramhall in Greater Manchester. I'm at Loughborough Uni studying theatre studies and drama (was going to do law but thats another story!). I've been cheerleading for a year and its so much fun,  I learn something new everyday, even how to fall from a great height gracefully. (My friends hate me talking about cheerleading all the time, its just coz they dont understand!) At Loughborough we all get on really well as a squad and we're really close with all the guys and on some sundays after a match on the coach home we watch a film i.e Dirty Dancing. The lads sing along and know the words (bit of a worry)! Then we all go on the sunday nite social and get drunk, go for a curry and get shouted at by the curry man!!! You couldnt ask for anything more!

Kate Flint

Hey I'm Kate :-) I'm originally from Birmingham but have spent the past 3 years studying Psychology at Hull University.  Well, I say studying, but thats probably not entirely true. But I can honestly say I did spend a lot of my time as a cheerleader for the Hull Sharks.  A lot of people call me crazy for doing it, I mean who volunteers to be thrown around (and I've gotta say not always caught), to get up early on a Sunday, and stand on the sidelines cheering in all weathers (and being a northerner all weathers includes everything except sunshine).  But I have to admit I love it.  I've enjoyed supporting the lads and most of all I've enjoyed the social aspect that comes with being part of a team, after all its how I learnt to down a pint!!!!
I'm sooo excited about being part of the GB Bulldogs this year.  Its given me the opportunity to meet some really great people and I have a feeling its gonna be something I'll remember for ever!!!! xx

Amy Holmes

I have just graduated from Southampton University, at last - the law degree seemed to drag out a lot.  Somewhere in amoungst that and all the uni fun, I found some time to be a cheerleader.  I have been doing it for three years now, for the Southampton Vixens where I was 'First Lady'.  I am a flyer, athough not through choice I must assure you.  I am so excited to be in the Bulldogs and can't wait to go to San Fran!  It will be a great way to end my cheerleading experience.

Jennie Kennedy

I'm from Crowthorne in Berkshire but more months of the year than not I'm a permanent resident in Aberystwyth. Only a student of course- but a cheerleading student so it's all good!! I have only been cheerleading for Tarannau for the past year, but I've loved every minute of it-the girls are fantastic! While I'm not cheerleading I'm playing netball, and as a dedicated member, (an award winner for 'The Chatterbox"!!), next year I have been honoured with the role of League Captain. I am about to enter my third year as a BA Film, TV and American Studies student. Our cheerleading squad most of the time is about getting drunk together and hitting on the boys which is why I was ecstatic when I heard that I had made it onto the GB Squad. I learnt so much from the girls just at try-outs so I cannot wait for training camps, games and of course the amazing tour to San Francisco; where I can learn even more from the cheerleaders, coaches and management staff. I have been dubbed American Jen on my squad and you girls will all see why when we arrive state side!! San Fran is the bestest place on the West Coast and I'm so glad I get to share it all again with you girls. Yey!! I am honoured to be representing my country-so lets hear it for the Bulldogs!

Let's go Bulldogs, LET'S GO!!!

Laura Mudge

I am currently studying Pharmacology at the University of Hertfordshire and will be going into my final year this September - scary! I have been cheering for 3 years with my squad the Hertfordshire Sirens, for which I was the squad President last academic year.  The Sirens are proud to cheer and support the Hertfordshire Hurricanes (4th time winners of the college bowl) and look to learn as much as we can from other cheerleaders to do our team proud as we have only been an official club for two years. The thing I most enjoy about cheerleading are the dance routines however the feeling you get after completing a difficult set of stunts is the best thing in the world. I am always up for learning new things, taking on challenges and strive to constantly improve my level of fitness. I feel very privileged to be part of the Bulldogs squad and hope I will be a valuable member.
Not all of my time is spent on cheerleading, (though sometimes I feel it is ) I also enjoy swimming, kickboxing, dancing and scuba diving. And finally….. Role on San Francisco - its gonna be wicked!

Becky Ormrod

I have just finished my first year in BA Graphic Image Making at Southampton Institute and have managed to secure freelance graphic design work to keep my head above the water in uni debts.  I joined the Vixens this year, the cheerleading squad for Southampton University and Southampton Institute.  Our squad has enterd UKCA and BCA this year, where we came 2nd in Dance at BCA and 6th in Cheer.  At UKCA we came 3rd in University dance, so we have achieved a lot this year as our first year as an AU squad.  Next year I am Social secretary for the squad, therefore getting to organise all the nights out every week.  My biggest achievement this year in cheerleading was receiving 'Cheerleader of the Year' for my squad, and of course making it into the GB squad!

Leanne Saddler

Hey, I'm Leanne. I had never done any cheerleading before coming to uni but I have now been a member of Loughborough Goldrush for two years. I was also part of the GB Bulldogs Cheerleaders squad last year and had a fantastic time in Italy...or was it Spain?! I learnt many new things, such as how to bubble, dance like a monkey and how to work hard and play hard - we trained for like twenty hours a day! I am thrilled to be on the squad this year and I am looking forward to getting stuck into the training!

Sam Taylor

Hey, its Sam here all the way from Cheshire yet spend all my life travelling to and from Loughborough!!! I'm at the uni studying Computing and a dash of social life on the side!!!!!.  I joined Goldrush this year and have never had so much fun in all my life! End of season meal was a blast, that i can remember anyway!!

Love the Goldrush Squad like a family and i know it will be the same on this tour with the Bulldogs! Can't wait for San Fransisco as have had such a good time with all the girls already and it can only get better!...xxx

Sarah Waudby

Hi, my name's Sarah and I live in Hull (Lock your cars!) and this is also where I am a second year Drama History student.  I have really enjoyed the whole Bulldogs experience and have found my many amusing (?) stories and quotes keep everyone very entertained.  I am a big fan of Classical music and have a few moves to show you all if we hear any on Tour!!  I cannot wait.
